I am a firm believer in the power of a door knob to change the entire aesthetic of a home. Most often, homeowners redo their interiors and don’t give much thought to the hardware they will use. And furthermore, they often leave little in their budget for hardware. This is one of my biggest pet peeves and I think one of the most common design mistakes I see. In my opinion, there is little need to spend lavsihly on furnishings and then skimp on hardware. It is like wearing a designer dress with cheap shoes or driving a Bentley with bumper stickers on the rear.
A door knob is like a bow on a package, especially on the front door. Your front door is your calling card to the world. You want your guest to anticipate what is your inside your home. Opening a front door with beautful hardware is like opening a beautiful package on Christmas morning with great excitement to see what is inside.
So, when you venture out in design, don’t underestimate the power of the door knob. Sometimes it is the little things that say the most. Wrap your home with the prettiest bow ever.
