Seeing this gorgeous, custom, hand-crafted doorknob as I was doing some research for one of my interior design clients here in Midland, TX got me thinking. Imagine what happens when someone reaches for this upon entering your home. Before they even step through your door, they see the beauty of it and sense the heft and feel of it with their hands. Would you agree it sets the stage for everything to follow?
Thinking about this led me to thinking about the differences between specifying one very special piece of hardware, like the doorknob above, from Baltica, and the hardware selections I have to make for my clients in the most used room in their homes, their kitchens. There, they see, feel and touch the hardware I select for them – multiple times each day – and it has to stand up to daily cleaning, sticky hands, and hundreds of thousands of pulls on it over many years. Investing in good kitchen hardware is not an option for my interior design clients – it’s a necessity.
In addition, kitchen hardware, even more than their appliance choices, impacts the overall look of their kitchens when seen from an open dining room area, a passage off an entry, etc. And on that note…
I thought I would have some fun today by showing you pictures of kitchens and asking you to share with me in the comments which hardware selections you like best..with what kitchens. Just let me know in the comments by saying: Kitchen {s} #1, #2, #3, etc. and if you’d like to leave a reason why you like it best, I’d love to know that, too. And you’ll notice that in some of these kitchens the hardware is mixed. Do you like this idea…or not?
If you’re a kitchen designer reading this, your comments can help educate my readers, who may be seeking professional advice in your geographical area and please feel free to leave your name and contact info if you leave a nice comment that can help them learn to see what you see and how they can make the best choices.
