Why We’re Obsessed with Terrazzo Tile Right Now (And You Should be Too!)

Terrazzo tile is back in a big way and who the hell knew?!  I ripped out an entire house of terrazzo 20 years ago!  This is a perfect example of how “everything old can be new again.”  Styles shift and tastes change over time and then something resurfaces years later and it’s even better than before.  Review all the 2019 design trends here.

.When it comes to all things stylish, terrazzo tile is certainly a bold, dramatic choice for home interiors.  You can craft a variety of unique looks with terrazzo tile ranging from fascinating floors to incredible kitchen countertops.

What is Terrazzo Tile?

Terrazzo Tile

Crafted of a unique composite material, this highly specialized tile is composed of small chips made up of granite, glass, marble, or quartz.

Terrazzo is a man-made synthetic stone that features a variety of colors placed in a cast shape, made of tiny chips. These chips can be made from anything like glass pieces or concrete to marble and it can be formatted in an assortment of shapes and sizes.

Once the chips are ground down, they’re polished to a smooth finish, allowing the tiles to work well as flooring or to be used as unique terrazzo tile home accessories.

Pros & Cons of Terrazzo Tile

There are many pros when it comes to installing terrazzo tile in your home. It’s a beautiful look, but it’s definitely not for everyone!

Terrazzo Tile in the Bathroom

Here are a few things to consider.

  • Pros: It’s quite durable and resists staining, cracks, and chips.
  • Cons: Terrazo tile can be slippery, so you may want to re-think installing it in a shower or other areas where falling may be a concern.

Terrazo tile can also be expensive, ranging anywhere from $7 per square foot and up.
