The fashion capitol of the world, New York City has been celebrating this week, with the designer launches for Spring Summer 2015, during New York Fashion Week. Just as with interiors and art, not all fashion styles are for everyone.
Some may see a line and immediately want to ridicule its design, while others will see a line and be inspired by it. Inspiration can come from an intricate pattern, quality details, rich textures, or the use of certain color palettes – whether they are bold and graphic or subtle and sophisticated. Many interior designers also look to the world of fashion for color cues and pattern combinations for their designs, from interiors to furniture design, textiles and even home decor lines. Pulling the thread together between fashion and interior design is also called lifestyle design: life, styled by design.

The key to merging the runway looks into your home’s style is to not take their ideas literally, but to be subtle in your references. For example, Carolina Herrera’s stunning Rose Gown above could be color inspiration for an interior, where you pop out the architectural detailing with white painted moldings and trim, plus update the chairs around an existing dining “set”, giving an all dark dining room and almost garden like feel, while still maintaining the timeless, classic ambience and elegant feel of the room.

Some of the looks off the ready to wear runway can be applied to traditionally styled homes today, to help brighten them up with bolder colors, playful patterns, and even painted woods. By implementing a monochromatic color scheme, the single color lends a note of wow paired with heirloom antiques, estate pieces, and quality crafted furnishings you’ve invested in for a lifetime.
