Luxury Laundry Room Essentials
Laundry rooms are often multi-purpose rooms where not just the laundry gets done! Some double as mudrooms, secondary entryways, pet grooming stations and gardening areas. Every laundry room needs some basic elements to make it a functional, well planned space.
Incorporate Storage Space
An efficient laundry room should incorporate lots of storage space, so plan for plenty of cabinets for your laundry supplies. If you don’t have much cabinet space, add open shelving and hooks. Keep things tidy with baskets; plan for a few so you can easily have all of your laundry sorted. Hampers with wheels make moving clothes around much easier!

Choose Your Flooring
In addition to your kitchen, the laundry room is the workhorse of your home so the flooring must be strong, durable and, preferably, water resistant.
Tile is a classic choice for laundry room floors because of its strength and versatility. Luxury vinyl flooring is another good option – it’s inexpensive, easy to install and available in lots of styles and colors. Stained or painted concrete is rock solid and waterproof! Engineered and hardwoods are beautiful, but they aren’t waterproof or resistant to scuffs and scratches.
After weighing the pros and cons, choose the flooring that suits you and the overall style of your home.

Light it Up
What is the best lighting for a luxury laundry room? Is it traditional fluroescent or something else? The amount of light you’ll need depends on the size of your room.
Fluroescents offer a low cost, highly efficient way to light your space, but they can be harsh and appear outdated. You’ll probably want to use a combination of lights: overhead lights for ambient lighting and recessed or under cabinet lights for task lighting. You can make it as simple or as luxurious as you want – don’t be afraid to put a chandelier in there!

Make it Easy to Use
When dreaming up your luxury laundry room, don’t forget to consider the functionality of the space. Think about your workflow, how you move from loading the washer and dryer to prepping and folding laundry. A large, deep sink is essential for soaking & removing stains from clothes and, if your space allows, include a clothing rod or drying racks so that anything that needs to be air-dried can immediately be taken out of the dryer and hung.
Include lots of countertop space so you’ll have enough room for ironing, stain removal, sorting and folding. There is an island in my laundry room that I use for folding and sorting clothes, but also for sewing on buttons, wrapping gifts, and opening packages and mail. Add a chair or bench so you have a place to sit down while you’re working so hard!
Luxury Laundry Room Decorating Ideas
You’re laundry room doesn’t have to look like a utility room! As much time as you spend in it, you’ll want it to share the decor of the rest of your home or have a style all it’s own.

Paint It
By their very nature, laundry rooms tend to be a bit on the smaller size, so I recommend keeping things light with a neutral color palette. That doesn’t mean it has to be bright white! Neutral colors will help make the space feel larger and give an overall “clean” look, which is something everyone wants in a room meant for cleaning.
Have Some Fun
Make your laundry room your happy place with wallpaper. You can use it as an accent on one wall or cover the entire room. Go bold, whimsical or subtle and watch your laundry room come alive!
