How much does it cost to remodel a luxury laundry room graphic
With summer upon us, and children home from school or back from college, many of you may all of a sudden have had their laundry loads doubled or tripled! Are you considering renovating your laundry rooms to make laundering your family’s clothes easier and more organized? Are you considering remodeling your current laundry room to include a craft area, kitchen area, work area, wrapping area, dog shower area …or all 5 of these?

Today, dear Hadley Court readers, we will share with you “How Much It Costs To Remodel A Luxury Laundry Room* and some of the factors you and your interior designer will need to consider.

And please note, the designers of all of these beautiful luxury laundry rooms have been identified and linked to at the bottom of this post.

Here’s the quick answer to the question! A luxury laundry room [not a normal laundry room – but a luxury one] will cost, on the low end, depending on the size and your location in the country [ which impacts labor costs] , approx. $15,000.00 and on the high end, approx. $50,000.00 and up, with the middle range being about $30,000.00.

So, what are the costs to consider when remodeling and creating a luxury laundry Room?

Ready?

CABINETRY

Your cabinetry will be your biggest cost in a luxury laundry room. Many factors play into this: the overall size of your laundry area, the type of wood used [maple, oak, mahogany, etc] the level of detailing you desire for any custom millwork, the organizational units you need inside the cabinetry [for instance, do you want your laundry baskets and trash cans concealed inside the cabinetry on pull outs, do you want your shelves to pull out for easy access?], the type of finish used on the wood – for instance, will the finish be custom glazed, stained or simply painted?

LABOR FOR PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL

The second factor that will play into the overall cost for your luxury laundry room is labor, especially as it relates to the electrical and plumbing aspects of what will be needed. For instance, will you need new electrical panels installed to handle increased loads? Will you need to move the existing plumbing to accommodate a better, more efficient layout? Will you need to bring current electrical and plumbing up to code so your homeowner’s insurance will cover your home or high rise unit in case of a flood, hurricane or fire?

Making sure your plumbing and electrical are up to current codes and meet your high rise and/or homeowner’s association requirements is one of the most important services your professional interior designer will provide for you and they will give you all the documentation you need when your job is completed.

Other labor costs involved in your luxury laundry room remodel could be/will be: demolition, sheetrock repair and new wall construction, installation costs for new windows, flooring, wall, countertop, ceiling and lighting installation costs, and appliance installation costs.

A WORD ABOUT SUB-CONTRACTORS

One of the main benefits of working with a professional interior designer like Leslie Hendrix Wood or your local interior designer is that they have long standing relationships with the best sub-contractors for each of these aspects of the labor costs involved in your luxury laundry room remodeling project. They know which subs show up on time, which ones keep your jobsite clean, which ones can accommodate changes in your schedule gracefully,  which ones take pride in their work, no matter what they’re being paid, which ones don’t cut corners to save costs, which ones can work well with other trades and remain flexible as the inevitable timing of product arrivals shift due to unforeseen circumstances, etc.

Please don’t ask your interior designer to use your own sub-contractors. Trust them – or don’t hire them. Your remodeling project will go so much more smoothly if you allow them to bring in their own trusted team, whom they’ve worked with over time.

SURFACE FINISH MATERIALS

After cabinetry and labor, comes the finish materials selected for each surface in your luxury laundry room. Will your countertops be wood, tile, marble, quartz, concrete, granite or some other material? Will your floors be tile, a wood *look alike* tile [very popular now in wet areas], genuine wood, brick or some other material? Will your walls be painted, tiled or wallpapered? Will you incorporate a beautiful tile backsplash to make a luxury statement in a smaller home as in the picture below?

All of these decisions impact the overall investment you will make in renovating your luxury laundry room area.

APPLIANCES AND FIXTURES

Naturally, your appliances – your washer and dryer [and how many of them you would like – larger families often opt for 2 sets in luxury laundry rooms so more can get done -faster ], your sink and faucet, your dog shower fixtures, your plant watering fixtures, and any kitchen appliances you may want in your luxury laundry room like a mini-microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher drawer, etc. will all impact your overall investment.

In this beautiful small, luxury laundry room below in Vermont, the owners have incorporated an antique vintage drying rack and an area where they can wash their dog and water their many household and outdoor container plants. The designers of this space cleverly gave them an additional surface by designing a slide out wood countertop that is underneath the main countertop that covers the washer and dryer.

LIGHTING, HARDWARE, FURNITURE, ART, ACCESSORIES

The final part of your investment in your luxury laundry room will be the overhead lighting, the lighting fixtures, the door and drawer hardware, window treatments, furniture, art and accessories you and your designer select to make your luxury laundry room beautiful, functional [ it’s so important to have excellent lighting in a laundry room for ironing and stain removal ] as well as a place where you, your children and your pets, too, feel calm, serene and comfortable!
