How much does it cost to remodel a luxury master bathroom in 2015? That’s the question we’re going to try to answer for you today, dear Hadley Court readers!
Here’s the short answer, though, and if you want to know every aspect you will need to consider so you can make an informed decision, read on.
A luxury master bathroom remodel, depending on the area of the country you are located in, the size of your bathroom, and the amount of and type of labor hours needed, will be an investment of, at the low end, $30,000.00 and, at the high end, $75,000.00 and above.
We know there are many *Do It Yourself* options that will reduce the cost, but if you want a luxury master bathroom that looks like what you see below, read on for detailed explanations for many of the factors that will go into your final investment.
In addition, hiring an interior designer like Leslie Hendrix Wood or your own local interior designer, who has vetted and worked with, over time, an experienced team of plumbers, electricians, tile, marble, window, shower, flooring, shower door installers, cabinetmakers, upholsterers, custom millwork and lighting specialists will be the best investment you will ever make in saving yourselves money and aggravation.
What is the biggest cost factor with any master bathroom remodel?
LABOR
{ This is what you never see on all the TV programs, by the way. The cost involved for the tradespeople, many of them artisans in their own right, actually doing all of the work! }
Here are the Top 10 factors you and your designer will need to take into consideration, from the standpoint of labor, regarding how much your luxury bathroom remodel will cost.
Keep in mind, this varies enormously by region.
1. The size of your bathroom and it’s shape. Odd shapes tend to be more labor intensive.
2. Will the bathroom be torn out to the studs or can some of the drywall be maintained? If not, the labor to re-install and hang and prepare your drywall for wallpaper, tile, marble, plaster or paint must be figured in.
3. Will new windows need to be installed or current windows moved to achieve symmetry and balance?
4. Will a new drain pipe, shower pan, toilet drain pipe, gas line, or ductwork need to be installed so your bathroom is up to current code?
5. Will new electrical outlets, circuit breakers or sub-panels need to be installed?
6. Will special plumbing be needed for toilets, bidets, sinks and fixtures, steam showers, and spa tubs? Will current plumbing need to be brought up to code?
7. Will you want custom cabinetry, to organize and store what’s important to you, designed and made for you, as part of your luxury bathroom remodel?
8. Will you want custom millwork, as shown above and below, designed and constructed to highlight important architectural features in your room..or create them?
9. Will there need to be new ductwork installed to vent the moisture from your bathroom properly?
10. Will you need a specialty tile, flooring, tile or marble or shower door installer, or all of these?
These are most of the labor costs that impact the question of, “How Much Does It Cost To Remodel A Luxury Master Bathroom in 2015?”
Isn’t this luxury master bathroom, below, designed by Australia’s http://canny.com.au, gorgeous?
The next aspect to consider with respect to the costs of a luxury master bathroom remodel are your….
FIXTURES
Fixtures include your bathtub, toilet, sink and external plumbing. There is such a huge range of luxury master bathroom fixtures available today. Some of the most beautiful are from American Standard’s new DXV collection, as seen in these photos by Kendall Photography.

Once your fixture costs are determined, then the next category is…
CABINETRY
This includes costs associated with the type of material your cabinetry will be made of, [ wood, metal, concrete, etc. ], the organizational & electrical components you will want in it, [ plug ins to charge your phone, etc? ] , the detailing involved and how many linear square feet of it will be needed. Cabinetry could also include special cabinetry for keeping medicines cool, built in mini-kitchens, wine storage, etc. This luxury master bathroom retreat below, by Aya Kitchens, for instance, used custom cirrus rye walnut cabinetry.
Once your cabinetry costs are established, then the next factor impacting the cost is:
FINISHES
Finishes include the tile, the marble, the hardware, the mirrors and the lighting, anything that will be used to cover a surface or that is permanently installed on a surface.
To inspire you, see these tiles from New Ravenna.
This gorgeous herringbone marble floor, below, was meticulously custom cut from 12″ x 24″ marble slabs, since the original tile the homeowner had fallen in love with was discontinued, giving her a one of a kind marble floor.
This is also an excellent example of how the designer involved, Joni Spear, had to use a flush mount ceiling fixture versus the crystal chandelier envisioned, due to safety codes in existence at this location. No homeowner wants to get sued or have their homeowner’s insurance denied because safety and electrical codes were not up to par.
This is one of the key benefits of working with an interior designer. They can make sure these technical details regarding codes and permits are taken into consideration for you and provide you with a documentation folder, should you ever need it.
