Doors, A Detail Not To Be Missed

First impressions are everything – let’s face it. The façade of your home is only as good as the details you carefully choose, taking careful consideration everything from the paint color; to the textures; all these nuances that truly make your house a home. Up your curb appeal by paying attention to your doors. You’re going to be spending a lot of time opening and walking through them, so why not make sure they speak to you and your guests! Here are a few ways to go from drab to fab!

Gold Detailing

Gold stands out nicely against the white door. The texture of the door complements the effect caused by the texture that surrounds it. For those who feel like painting a door an entire color (or covered with pattern), is a bit drastic, this is a soft way to incorporate a unique perspective on a classic look.

Heavy Contrast

The idea behind this type of visual appeal is in the way that there is a high contrast between the door and its background. The way that the purple and green play together make the entrance alluring. The pattern on the door also creates a sense of asymmetry; a mystery waiting to unfold.

There are ways to offer a front door make-over without ever touching it. Add drama to the entryway by detailing around the door. Shown here, both the shape and the wall echo far off into the distance, ultimately, bringing maximal focus to the entryway portal.

Materials

Mixing and matching materials such as wood and brass (or other metals) is a solid way to create an impact. It blends an old world with new and adds sophistication like no other. Shown here, this beautiful Belgian door went as far as adding a metal gate, a castle-effect, sure to wow its beholders. A style not all too common in the US, it almost feels to me like the door has jewelry on.

Expert Insight

We decided to look to experts for further insight on indoor and outdoor entryways. Most importantly, spaces that call for different aesthetics based on the climate in which they’re in and the audience which they attract. Kiran and Bia Kahn of BIAKI , the talent behind the art of luxury door making, lent us their expertise!

Nara Door in White, BIAKI

“Our Nara Door in White would be the ideal solution for revamping a summer house – the door has clean lines and the structure and wood would add a simple clean elegance to a country or beach home.”

Nara Door in Sable, BIAKI

“Our Nara Door in Sable would be perfect for a winter lodge or ski house – the beautiful rich color adds warmth and depth to any home. For instance, we advised one of our designer clients to use the Nara Sable on a home in Upstate New York, and the effect was ideal for pulling the aesthetic together.”

“We designed the front door for the New York City Goyard store in collaboration with our Biaki designers. The door was the perfect answer to bringing attention to this luxurious space while adding warmth to the entryway and making customers feel welcome.”

It was once said that a person’s eyes were the portal into their soul…well it’s safe to say that doors offer the same transient vehicle into our homes. Revamp and relish in all this door magic!
