Lifestyle

When Decorating Becomes Child’s Play

In life and in my home I make a point of trying not to take things more seriously. In our hectic lives we must take time out to stop and smell the roses, and to make time for fun and laughter. This attitude is reflected in both how I dress myself as well as how I dress my home. I look to classic, timeless colors, shapes and lines as a staple… a simple sophistication. But my simple sophistication always needs a touch of whimsy. Since our homes best reflect our personalities and lifestyles, I like to incorporate a touch of fun in every space.

I happen to love chalkboard paint. I think it’s whimsical and fun. It’s instant magic. Whether you choose to paint a room, a wall, or a section of a wall, you’ll be bringing out your inner child – as well as those all around you. Children’s playrooms and bedrooms are natural spaces for chalkboard walls, but why not take a moment to think outside the box? Where else could we paint? Chalkboard walls are perfect in home offices, kitchens and dining rooms. If you love to entertain, your guests will have such fun writing messages and doodling on your kitchen wall or dining area wall!

Chalkboard walls are perfect for leaving notes for friends and family members, making lists, writing down menus, jotting down ideas or simply for doodling.

Perhaps you like this idea but you’re not so sure you want an entire wall, or even a piece of wall painted. There are other ways to incorporate chalkboard paint into your home. Try painting the top of a salvaged kitchen table, trunk or coffee table. Paint a tray, the inside of a frame that has been fitted with plywood, a jar, a vase, some bottles. Paint the back of a door or the inside of a kitchen cabinet door.  The possibilities are truly endless!

I’m a big fan of Benjamin Moore’s line of chalkboard paint which is available in any color you wish!
