As Thanksgiving 2015 approaches, we know you, dear readers, are busy preparing your dining room to welcome your families and friends for Thanksgiving meals.
One of the things that makes decorating the Thanksgiving table so special are all the personal touches of grace you can add that reflect on your life, your taste, the meaning of the holiday to your family, and the memories you hold dear.
Today, we’re going to show you some examples and give you some ideas for how to set your Thanksgiving tables in ways that can help you tell your family’s story.
Ready?
Blogger and designer Marian Watson of the popular Miss Mustard Seed blog made her dining room more personal and memorable by adding turkey feathers and magnolia leaves found on her family’s property to the chandelier in her own home.
1. What natural elements are found around your own homes, that you could use in your Thanksgiving decorating to bring attention to what’s unique to your area and region?
Do you remember when HC contributor Kim Shaver interviewed Asheville, NC based author, interior designer and tastemaker Kathryn Greeley about Thanksgiving last year?
Below is a picture of Kathryn’s own dining table set for Thanksgiving, that was on that post.
It’s not hard to tell what Kathryn and her husband have collected all their lives, that makes their Thanksgiving table so memorable, is it?
And we can just imagine the collecting stories they share with their friends each year over this special meal. Those stories & memories that will last their family and friends a lifetime.
2.What kind of collection do you have that you could use/re-purpose or create, for the day, to help your Thanksgiving table tell your family’s story?
Another beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape is the one below, created by tastemaker extraordinairre, Carolyne Roehm.
Notice how Carolyne took the design motif from one of her favorite paintings, the pheasant, and wove it through the center garland that graces her Thanksgiving tablescape.
We also love the snow sprinkled on top of the fruits, pinecones and berries and how that picks up on the white of the candle and the creams and whites in the painting behind it.
Are you also noticing how beautifully transparency and density are woven together to create a pleasing visual rhythm?
3. What is one of the favorite design motifs in your own home, that you might be able to weave into and through your Thanksgiving tablescape?
If the motif is not currently in your dining room, could you re-hang a favorite piece of art or bring in an object or two that contains it, that might be in another room, to your dining room, just for this special day?

And lastly, we’d like to share with you a beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape in a dining room that could belong to any of us, but belongs to Tennessee-based Phronsie Dial, the mother of well known blogger, Courtney of Pizzazzerie.
We love the traditional elegance of this room, the way the wallpaper and the chandelier echo each other’s shapes to create harmony, and the exquisite golden cornucopia centerpiece, which also echoes the curving shapes found in the wallpaper and in the chandelier.
Here’s a closeup. We would never have thought to mix those golden yellow tulips in with the fruit of the same color.
Perfection.
We loved Courtney’s post about her mother’s Thanksgiving table, which you can see at the bottom of this one.
In it,
Courtney remembers how special her Mother made each and every holiday for her as she was growing up.
That’s what Thanksgiving is really all about, isn’t it?
Creating memories for our children, extended families and friends and giving gratitude for the blessings we have.
And as we close this post, we want you to know how grateful we are for you. We appreciate your readership, your comments and your kindness.
We wish you and your families a blessed and safe Thanksgiving.
