I recently read an article in New York Magazine about the offices at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City. One of the featured offices belonged to Linda Fargo, the senior Vice President of Bergdorf’s fashion office. What caught my eye was a cabinet she said she gave the “Tommi Parzinger treatment.” Fargo had taken a plain cabinet, had it lacquered in black and added fabulous hardware. It was stunning. (See below)
I loved the cabinet so much I searched for more information about Tommi Parzinger. I found photos of the furniture pieces in the first photo. I learned that Parzinger was a German cabinet maker and painter who came to the United States in 1939. His works were collected by famous clients, including Billy Baldwin, Marilyn Monroe, and the Rockefeller, Mellon and Dupont families. Parzinger’s works were titled “high-style modernism,” which represented a “more idiosyncratic rarefied mid-century design.” Since Parzinger’s death in 1981, his pieces have become quite collectible. There are quite a few of Parzinger’s pieces for sale on 1st Dibs. I would love to own one of these mid-century jewels. Photo 1: Pinterest Photo 2: New York Magazine
