One of the questions always on everyone’s mind who has a love for interiors, architecture and fashion is, “What’s The New Color Palette?* As you saw in our posts from High Point Market, Leslie Hendrix Wood identified a trend she coined, #TheNewFeminine, and its most prolific color expression there was seen in all the blush pinks, mint greens and pale aqua blues being used in many of the showrooms.
These colors signify the biggest oncoming color shift we’ve seen in a while, one just starting to gain in popularity here in the United States: the shift to…
PASTELS.
With the birth of Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge a few days ago, too, [how exciting is/was that?!! } we anticipate seeing pastels taking even a bigger role in color palettes, especially for nurseries for new Moms, supplanting the brighter colors that have been popular here in the United States for a while.
Doty Horn, formerly director of Benjamin Moore’s Color and Design program for 7 years and now the CEO of ColorVoyant, and one of the world’s most respected color forecasting experts, shared in her latest color trend forecast that she believes SILENCE is the next big trend.
Here’s an infographic of the color palettes for 2015 that led her to name these 4 color palettes: SILENCE. For a link to her fascinating blog with an explanation about all 4 color palettes, please scroll to the very bottom of this post.
Ms. Horn was recently interviewed about the color trend SILENCE by the editors of the furniture and design industry’s leading trade trend magazine: Home Fashion Forecast. If you’d like to page through it later, Hadley Court readers, you can find a free digital edition on their website at http://homefashionforecast.com
One of the things I found most interesting about the overarching color trend towards SILENCE that Ms. Horn identified, came from this statement about it on her website and I think interior designer Leslie Hendrix Wood, the owner of this blog, exemplifies the last 3 words: A Quiet Confidence, especially in her communications with her luxury interior design clients in Midland, Texas.
Here are some pictures of interiors I’ve collected to share with you so you can see how this new color palette is being used in a slightly more modern home. It’s refreshing to me to see these lighter, quieter, prettier colors – especially as we swing into late Spring and early Summer – is it to you, too?

Another example of how quieter hues have been used in a modern way, is in this New York City home by Arent&Pyke. I love this custom area rug, and how it combines 2 of the 4 color themes identified by Ms. Horn: NOISE and QUIET, together. Even though it’s modern, it has a quiet confidence in defining this living room area.
And from these same designers, Arent&Pyke, in another project they completed, comes these kitchen cabinets painted in a soft mint green pastel, a color we saw emerging at High Point Market.

Even in tableware, pretty pastels are emerging for spring and summer entertaining. I love the pearlescent finish on this. Do you?

All of these soft, pretty pastels are a welcome respite from our busy days, especially as we enter spring and summer vacation season, allowing us to silence our minds to think, to read, to hold a meaningful conversation or to simply be able to fall asleep at night and dream… to the murmur of the ocean outside our windows.Image: Country Living magazine, Photographer, Miki Duisterhoff, Styling: Karin Lidbeck Brent
