I just returned from an incredible vacation at Jumby Bay. Jumby Bay is set on a 300-acre private Caribbean island, nestled two miles off the coast of Antigua. This is one of the most magical vacations I have been on. You can only reach the island by taking a private boat from Antiqua. When you arrive at the dock at Jumby Bay, there is a lovely hostess waiting to usher you to your private island paradise. I felt like I was on a set of Fantasy Island. There is no front desk to check in. You simply sit on the veranda and enjoy a rum punch while one of the staff take your credit card and sign you in. One of the lovely staff members wisked us via golf cart to our beach home we rented.
As you can see, our house was simply a slice of heaven. The house was lovely. The only draw back was there was air conditioning only in the bedrooms. I am a Texan and I am accustomed to air conditioning. Needless to say, this did not hamper the fabulous time I had.
A private chef prepared dinner for us on our patio the first evening we were there. I will forever cherish the memory of eating that dinner with my husband and children, basking in the light from the full moon and hearing the waves crash to shore. These are the moments in life that are to be truly cherished.
We spent our days at the beach. We were told that there were only 100 guests on the island when we there. I felt like we had the island to ourselves. There was a host of wait staff to bring us whatever we desired from the bar. They also made the rounds with rum punches, smoothies, appetizers and my absolute favorite-homemade mini ice cream sandwiches. The resort offered waterskiing and sailing, free of charge to guests.
The food at Jumby Bay was fabulous. The resort is all inclusive. I had my reservations about an all inclusive resort, nonetheless, a five star resort. We enjoyed two lovely dinners at the Estate House and The Veranda. One of our favorite meals was a private dinner we had on the beach. What can be better than an exquisite meal on the beach with the sand in your toes and the gentle tide of the ocean next to you.
I hope I have given you a glimpse of what an incredible place Jumby Bay is. My teenagers begged us to stay longer. I knew when my teenagers begged to stay that there was something magical about Jumby Bay.
We left Jumby Bay with sadness. We left in the simple boat that had brought us to this magical place. As the boat quietly left the Jumby Bay dock, the staff waived us goodbye until we were out of sight. Jumby Bay has captured the true essence of that an island paradise should be. I can’t wait until I get to enjoy Jumby Bay someday soon.
