I was one of the 10 million viewers who devoured every moment of the fourth season premier of Downton Abbey on PBS. I love the characters and the storyline but I am most obsessed with the interiors. Dowton Abbey reminds me of what my beloved summer home, Hadley Court, might have looked like 100 years ago. Granted, Hadley Court is diminutive in terms of Downton Abbey, however, they both evoke a sense of history and tradition to me. I love that all of the furnishings have been handed down through the generations. Every piece of furniture has a story to tell. I would love to go over every room in Dowton Abbey with a fine tooth comb. I want to feel the velvety brocade fabric on the furnishings, feel every detail in the carved wood paneling, smell the scent of tradition and see the pigments in every paint color.
As Downton Abbey takes the country by storm, paint companies are stepping up to the plate and offering Downton Abbey color palettes. Downton Abbey fans want to bring a piece of this bygone era into their homes. Our lives may not be as seeped in tradition as it is on Downton Abbey, but we all yearn to ground ourselves with a sense of history. There is not an easier way to do this than with a can of paint.
Kelly Moore paints suggest the color, Sonoma Sky, to achieve the ethereal effect of Cora’s, the Countess of Grantham, bedroom.
Farrow and Ball gives a nod to Downton Abby with its aptly named collection. The company chose the richly pigmented hues of browns, pastels, creams and greys to closely resemble the historic colors used in Dowton Abbey.
If you want to recreate the kitchen in Downton Abbey, then try Kelly Moore’s volcanic rock, a color with historic roots and a modern sensibility.
Add a timeless twist to your dining room with this color palette from Farrow and Ball. Create drama in any room by layering the neutral shades and punctuating them with a rich, dark tone. A beautiful canvas for any candle lit dinner.
I love all of the colors of Downton Abbey. My favorite color palette is in the dining room. What is your favorite?
