Okay, these are not Hee Haw cakes but they are made by one of the cast members of Hee Haw. Mackenzie Colt is the former cast member who makes these delectable treats. All that Mackenzie has ever known is cooking and singing. She put her husband through law school with singing gigs. She landed a gig with Buck Owens and he introduced her to the Hee Haw executives. She nailed an audition and was hired for the variety show.
Mackenzie left Hee Haw after six years to pursue a song writing career. She soon became burned out with music and turned to her second love, cooking. Mackenzie formed Colts Chocolates and the rest is history. The company has 5 primary products: Colt’s Bolts, Gooey Butter Pies, Chocolate Dipped Animal Crackers, Truffle Babies and Roy Rogers Happy Trails Chocolate. Mackenzie’s client list reads like a who’s who of country music. Clients include Dolly Pardon, Kenny Rogers, Vince Gill and Garth Brooks.
I had a piece of Colt’s dark chocolate fudge pie at a dinner party recently. It was fabulous. I thought the hostess had made it. She was kind enough to fess up and tell me her source. I have ordered several pies and have them stockpiled in the freezer for future dinner parties, hostess gifts, and meals for sick friends. You must try them. You won’t be sorry.
