Today, dear readers, we’d like to introduce you to a company well known in the home and hospitality industry to interior designers like Leslie Hendrix Wood, but not as well known, perhaps, to you.
A *still family owned company* started by a husband and wife, Craig and Randy Rubin show below, headquartered in Michigan, that has had their moisture-resistant, stain-resistant, antimicrobial, and breathable “super fabric” made with green ideals specified and used in Bloomingdale’s, The White House and Buckingham Palace, amongst thousands of other residential, commercial and hospitality installations around the world.
That company is CRYPTON, a new premier sponsor of the Fall 2015 #HPMPT StyleSpotters program that Leslie is honored to be participating in this year. And while this post is a sponsored post, we think you will enjoy learning all about this wonderful family owned company and their story over the coming weeks.
Craig and Randy’s story is a true *Made In America* success story.
Randy, who for many years sold textiles himself before founding Crypton {named for the man with the red cape who makes all things *super* possible }, realized there was a demand for high performance fabrics, but at that time, they didn’t exist. His *aha* moment came when he was looking at diapers and realized they were made of a material that had all the characteristics his clients needed…and they performed.
When he and Randy met and married within 3 months, Randy brought all of her marketing and legal skills to bear upon her husband’s idea, and together they worked with chemists and mills to develop the fabric that met Randy’s client’s standards… and filed patents that still protect their invention.
Today, over 110 million yards of Crypton fabrics have been sold, and with advances in technology over the past 3 years, Craig and Randy can now produce their high performance Crypton fabrics with a hand and feel that are almost identical to that of non performance enhanced fabrics.
The opening picture in this post shows Crypton’s *Melrose* fabric. It’s hard to tell that this is a *performance enhanced* fabric, suitable for the finest luxury homes and hotels, isn’t it?
Here are 3 more we like.
Now, Crypton Fabrics licenses its technology to world renowned Valdese Weavers.
Valdese Weavers has the ability to custom color and custom weave Crypton performance enhanced fabrics to their customer’s specifications, which makes Valdese a wonderful resource for interior designers to use when they are specifiying very large yardage orders for their hotel and hospitality clients.
{ A little side note of design history: Valdese Weavers, celebrating their 100 year anniversary this year, began in 1915 as the Waldensian Swiss Embroidery Company, a lace and embroidery manufacturer developed by Italian immigrants. Twenty years later, Harley Shuford, the father of today’s owner of Century Furniture, purchased the company and changed its name to Valdese Weavers Inc., introducing jacquard woven fabrics to the company’s product line.
