Here’s the backstory on this wonderful collection that was such a hit at High Point Market.

Last fall, Jonathan Charles Furniture teamed with tastemaker and designer William Yeoward,   - one of London’s most highly respected creative forces, known for his exquisite crystal and dinnerware [ and if you know Leslie Hendrix Wood, you know she loves to give his crystal as gifts]  to launch a new furniture collection.

Here’s Mr. Yeoward in the kitchen of his own home in England.

Together, Jonathan Charles Furniture and William Yeoward launched “WILLIAM YEOWARD…collected,”  a line of 80 of Mr. Yeoward’s designs, each one known for its exquisite artistry, sense of fun and craftsmanship.

Long time readers may remember this post by Leslie Carothers after she visited the Jonathan Charles showroom last fall and fell in love with several of his furniture designs, including our #HadleyCourtHoliday Giveaway, his Tenbury Game Table.

We are so delighted to now be able to bring you, readers, thanks to the generosity of  Jonathan Charles Furniture, this gorgeous game table as our 1st #HadleyCourtHoliday giveaway, featuring a chessboard top, as seen in the detailed photo below, and a base made up of - a stack of books - all hand-painted and hand-carved, but also containing a wonderful surprise inside the base!

The delightful surprise?

Several of the hand-carved “books” on the base are real drawers, with different hand painted patterns inside each drawer, as seen in the 3 pictures below [ the 1st one taken by Leslie Carothers last fall in the Jonathan Charles showroom] — a surefire conversation starter at any party in your home.

The hand painting and hand carving make the Tenbury Game Table “one of the most labor-intensive pieces in the entire collection,” said Yeoward. “One can only marvel at the attention to detail. Its hand-painted-and-carved stack of books, secret drawers and chessboard top make it a truly original piece of furniture and William said, ” I really feel no library should ever be without one.”

We could not agree more with Mr. Yeoward, pictured below in Elle Decor.

Mr. Jonathan Sowter, chief executive officer and the owner of Jonathan Charles Fine Furniture, shown below, agrees and says the Tenbury Game Table is actually his very favorite piece in WILLIAM YEOWARD…collected.

“I love the quirkiness of the piece and the surprise when we point out that some of the books on the base actually function as drawers. The attention to detail and the surprise element of the drawers make this a fun piece to show people that brings character to any room,” he said.
