As some of you may know, I recently attended the Dallas Market’s #JuneSneakPeek Blogger Event with Leslie Hendrix Wood, the founder of Hadley Court, who was once again invited to be part of Dallas Market Center’s Host Committee, along with Denise McGaha, Shay Geyer, Elle Cole and Kelly Copeland.
There were so many highlights for us, but first of all, we’d like to thank our hosts Meredith Hite, the Vice President of Corporate Communications at Dallas Market Center and her brother, Chris Hite, the owner of http://chrishite.com, who organized our day impeccably, including free and easy parking. An additional thank you to Lauren Venegas, the Communications Manager at Dallas Market Center, who spent her day with us, too. Lauren, we wish you and your fiancee much happiness at your upcoming wedding!
Here’s Lauren on the left and Meredith on the right, in the beautiful J. Mackie showroom, one of our official host showrooms.
This is Chris — who worked for Neiman Marcus for a decade before striking out on his own.
Hadley Court readers, the showrooms we officially visited: Surya Rugs, Wendover Art, Visual Comfort Lighting at Taylors on Ten, J Mackie and Associates all had giveaways for us. Below are some pictures from our day of design at Dallas Market Center. Our thanks to these showrooms for hosting us!
We began our day with a continental breakfast and then listening to Denise McGaha’s excellent presentation on *Designing With A Deadline* which Dallas Market Center wrote about afterwards, here.
3 hot takeaway tips from Denise?
1. Know which vendors have in-stock programs. Hosts Surya Rugs, Visual Comfort Lighting and Wendover Art do, and Denise highly recommended them to everyone present.
2. Make the showroom reps part of your own team by always saying thank you and letting them know, with an email, phone call, small gift or note, when their help made a difference.
3. Put your internal team on a calendar that everyone shares and write every deadline in it so everyone, at all times, including clients, knows what to expect. Send your clients an update every Friday, so that when they see you on vacation on Facebook, they know that their business is still being attended to by your team.

After this, we headed off to Surya who has a beautiful permanent showroom at Dallas Market Center now and is also, in addition to rugs, showcasing pillows, art, mirrors, decorative accessories and smaller furniture items.
This rug below, from their Abigail Kid’s Collection, 338.00 retail for a 5 ‘x 8’, is one reason Surya is such a popular choice for parents like Leslie who have dorm decor on their minds for their children entering college this fall -as Leslie’s daughter,Amy, will be doing for the 1st time at the University of Texas – Austin.
Here’s a picture of Leslie and I as we finished touring the Surya Showroom. Thank you, Surya!
L to R, 3 of the 5 #JuneSneakPeek hosts: Kelly Copeland, Leslie and Elle Cole.
After Surya we headed to Wendover Art, which had wonderful artwork which can be custom matted and framed, for very reasonable prices. This pretty model home’s bedroom and living room, designed by Charlene Neal and shown below, features art we saw during our visit to Wendover Art’s showroom.
After listening to the illuminating and excellent presentation by Millennial expert Jason Dorsey
who was kind enough to autograph and give us each a copy of his book { which we highly recommend you buy here – as an audio book to listen to on your summer vacations – as his insights were spot on if you work with millennials in your business or parent them in your home }
and then eating lunch and visiting the Vintage temps, where we were treated to a free piece of pie from Bud Royer’s Royer Pie Haven, we walked around buying …since everything in the vintage temporary spaces, including gifts and jewelry, is available for purchase & same day take home. #lovethat!
After this, we went over to the Design Temps and visited the beautiful temporary showroom space of one of our fellow #JuneSneakPeek attendees, Mili Suleman. Her new line of handblocked textiles, KUFRI LIFE, will be featured on the blog later this week.
What I loved most was how the patterns and colors of the fashions worn by some of our fellow attendees, shown below, blended so well into Mili’s showroom booth!
After visiting the temporaries, we went upstairs to Taylors On Ten, the Visual Comfort lighting showroom, where the showroom owner, Jane Murray, had a wonderful surprise waiting for all of us. A gift certificate for 1200.00 was randomly drawn and the winner got to choose any lamp in the showroom! This year’s winner? Mili Suleman of Kufri Life. Congratulations, Mili!
Visual Comfort is a Houston headquartered company and they carry the lighting lines by AERIN, Ralph Lauren, Barbara Barry, Thomas O’Brien+++.
I loved these ivory coral -like and gold chandeliers from AERIN’s line:
and was also smitten with the sculptural, elegant, slightly off balance quality of this lighting from a designer not quite as well known as those above, Ian K. Fowler.
We ended our day at the J. Mackie showroom, whose use of this removable wallpaper in their showroom window captured my attention as it reminded me so much of what our friend Laurie at http://customizedwalls.com produces and it seemed like a wonderful idea for dorm decor for Leslie’s daughter and maybe yours, too, Hadley Court readers.
J.Mackie also carries the elegant Jonathan Charles furniture line, one that Leslie specifies a lot for her interior design clients in Midland, Texas. Be watching for one of our future #TimelessDesign Sweepstakes Giveaways to feature this gorgeous YARNE occasional table from William Yeoward’s COLLECTED furniture collection, whose drawer is lined with his signature wood grain polka dots, which I wrote about earlier here, available through Jonathan Charles at the J Mackie Showroom.
All in all it was a wonderful day – but we missed Host Committee member Shay Geyer, whose youngest daughter was sick but is now, thankfully, better. Shay is shown below with Meredith and Chris in January.
Again,
to everyone who made our day so special, fun and educational and Hadley Court readers, if Leslie Hendrix Wood can ever help you source anything from these wonderful showrooms at Dallas Market Center, please call on her at Chancellor Interiors in Midland, Texas.
