It’s fall and that means one thing – especially here in Texas – the beginning of the college football season!
For many families around the country, all the activities that go on around college football games have become beloved family traditions and, today, I’m going to share with you, Hadley Court readers, some of the traditions surrounding the University of Texas -Austin’s Longhorns, the college where Leslie’s daughter, Amy, is a freshman this year.
First, meet Bevo. Bevo is the steer, 14th in line, who is the mascot of the sports teams at the University of Texas at Austin. Bevo’s horns gave rise to the college’s famous HOOK ‘EM hand symbol and saying and makes appearances at almost all the home games of the Texas Longhorns. Bevo, thank goodness, is docile, but does not like lightning.
In Texas, the love of college football starts early, and little children { and pets! } are dressed in all sorts of adorableness right from the crib.
Fuzzy little slippers for holiday gift giving. How cute are these?
And something a little more *grown up*.
And then there are the tutus – for the after parties 🙂 –does it get any sweeter?
But, as we all know, on the field, football isn’t cute. It’s real work for our college players who go all out to win! Can you believe these are your sons, your neighbor’s sons – 18, 19, 20 and 21 year old young men who risk it all to bring glory to their college, their adopted hometown and their country? [ And, as an aside, we are praying for a full recovery for Texas Longhorn quarterback, David Ash, recently sidelined with concussion symptoms. We’re rooting for you, David – along with all of Texas and the country. ]
And rivalries? Who doesn’t love a good college rivalry? In Texas Longhorn land, the biggest rivalry is with Oklahoma. This is what it looks like on game day!
Dressing cool is important for these big games that are packed like this – especially here in Texas where it can still be in the 90’s in August, September and October. Wouldn’t this look cute on Leslie’s daughter….or maybe yours?
Another game day tradition, all over the country? The fun tailgating parties!
And, in Texas, tailgate barbecuing is serious business for the men and a competitive sport!
Looking for a holiday gift for the man in your life who owns a truck and who loves college football? Here you go.
And, because we love design on Hadley Court, here is the Pantone color that IS the official color of Longhorn football – Pantone 158. Longhorn Moms, now you can color match with abandon… and below this chip are some colors that work well with it.
From all of us here on Hadley Court, we wish you a fall full of fun – creating and enjoying the family traditions that surround your own favorite college football team!
We’d love to know which team that is > please let us know in the comments!
