A wonderful 2 weeks is about to unfold for Leslie Hendrix Wood and all of you, Hadley Court readers, as Leslie and her team get ready to attend the world’s largest wholesale international furniture tradeshow, High Point Market, in High Point, North Carolina, the country’s long time center for fine furniture and craftsmanship.
Many wonderful collaborations in design take place there each market between different segments of our industry and today, on Hadley Court, I’m going to explore some with you that involve the manufacturer sponsors and partners that have supported Hadley Court, as well as Leslie Hendrix Wood’s own giving initiative to benefit our entire industry, the new Hadley Court Center For Design Collaboration at the Bienenstock Furniture Library.
Let’s start with the brands sponsoring Leslie Hendrix Wood to attend High Point Market.
Leslie is being sponsored to #HPMkt by two wonderful companies, John Richard Collection [ is is one of their gorgeous verre eglomise chests that you see in the picture above -see more in their showroom at 200 Steele if you’re attending ] and also Picture Source, out of Seattle, who just today announced the appointment of a new Chief Visionary Officer, Julia Marks. Please help make her feel welcomed if you see her at High Point and if you’d like to read more about her, please click here.
Picture Source has long been a leader in the hospitality segment of our industry, their list of hotel and spa clients on their website is impressive, and now they’re reaching out to the luxury interior design segment of the residential furniture industry.
We’re looking forward to seeing their new showroom at #HPMKt in the IHFC Building, C365, and hope you’ll make a point to stop by, as well, and introduce yourself to Julia and her team and see if there’s something there that might be helpful for you on one of your design projects. They also do custom framing with sustainably sourced woods, so if you have a project that requires this, they would be a resource for you.
In addition to design blogger/brand collaborations like High Point Market’s sponsored blogger program, other exciting collaborations are taking place between all segments of the furniture and design industry.
One of the most exciting is the establishment of a new school.
In High Point and surrounding cities like Hickory, North Carolina, live our country’s finest furniture artists and tradespeople: the upholsterers, the sewers, the carpenters, the glaziers, the ironmakers, the finishers, etc. who bring you the quality you value and appreciate in the fine furniture and objects you invest in for your homes.
One of the these manufacturers, our first #TimelessDesign giveaway partner this past summer, Century Furniture, along with 4 other manufacturers, have recently collaborated together to start a furniture program at Hickory, NC’s Catawba Valley Community College, to teach new generations the skills that are needed to meet the rapidly growing worldwide demand for the finest quality furniture Made In The USA today.
This is such an exciting initiative between Century, Lee Industries, Sherill, Vanguard and Lexington and you can read more about here, if you’d like. Do you have a son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter or friend with children who would like to learn how to make fine furniture? This program could be perfect for them.
At the upcoming High Point Market, the Bienenstock Furniture Library’s new Hadley Court Center for Design Collaboration will be formally dedicated in a talk given this Friday at 4 pm on COLLABORATION IN DESIGN by esteemed designer Mary Douglas Drysdale.
Leslie Hendrix Wood gifted the library with this gorgeous high tech center and she hopes, one day soon, that students from the Catawba Community College’s Furniture Program will be encouraged to come and use the center’s advanced AV equipment: to conduct research, to hold meetings with other design enthusiasts at schools around the country, and to share their progress on Livestream videos with their friends and the furniture manufacturers who have collaborated together to make it possible for them.
Here’s a post from a few weeks ago about the reasons behind Leslie Hendrix Wood’s gift.
Some of you will remember this room of Mary’s we published in an earlier post last week on our favorite Sunburst mirrors, here, written by one of our own blog’s collaborators, HC contributor Lynda Quintero-Davids, who also manages Leslie’s beautiful Pinterest boards.
Mary collaborates with many of the country’s finest artisans to execute the details in her exquisitely edited design work.
The Hadley Court Center holds 25 and the RSVP’s are complete, but if you’d like to be on a waiting list or if you’d like to join everyone after Mary’s talk at 5 pm for a celebration reception for Leslie Hendrix Wood and to meet Mary Douglas Drysdale, please join us all at the library at 5 pm, if you will be attending High Point Market, too.
If not, Hadley Court readers, there will be plenty of pictures on the blog in coming weeks to share with you + video, so you will feel as if you were there for this seminal moment in the history of important collaborations that benefit the entire furniture and interior design industry in the USA – and all future generations, too.
Below is a map to help you find the Library, if you’re attending. it is at 1009 N. Main Street at the corner of Edgar Place and North Main, 5 minutes by Go Anywhere bus from the main transportation terminal of High Point Market.
From the white glove only rare furniture and interior design books in the library’s rare book room…to the high tech touch of a computer screen, the Bienenstock Furniture Library connects the past with the present and now with the addition of the new Hadley Court Center –the future – as students, designers and scholars can collaborate seamlessly around the world now for free.
And, besides visiting her sponsors’ showrooms and showing you what’s exciting and new … and attending and speaking at her dedication ceremony, Leslie will be posting pictures of what she finds beautiful and appropriate for her own interior design clients in Midland, Texas who collaborate with her by trusting her to design what is most precious to them – a home that will nurture and support their feelings of safety and well being for themselves and their families.
Whether you will be at High Point Market yourself, or not, we hope you’ll follow along with Leslie on her social channels on http://facebook.com/HadleyCourt
