Entertaining Holidays

Give Thanks!

gratitude jar

As we near the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite family traditions. When my children were younger I bought a blessings jar. The jar is a simple brown pottery jar with the word “Blessings” etched on it. The jars pictured above from Wisteria are different from my blessing jar and I think I might like these better.

The purpose of a Blessing jar is to write down on a piece of paper a blessing that you have received. On Thanksgiving and birthdays my family writes down a blessing on a piece of paper, folds the paper, and puts it in the jar. I love the glass gratitude jar above because it is a true visual of God’s overflowing blessings to us. I think writing down what we are thankful for is a powerful reminder of God’s bountiful blessings. From time to time, we take a few pieces of paper and read them as a family to remind us how God is always at work in our lives. My hope is that when life gets difficult, my children will think of Gods many blessings and have the courage and fortitude to carry on.

During this holiday season, let’s take time to find the blessings in the joys of everyday life. What blessings do you have to be thankful for?
